Day 9: Thanks Prayer

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57

The difference between a prayer of thanksgiving and a prayer of praise is subtle, but there is a difference. For praise, we adore God for who He is—for what His character is like. In a prayer of thanks, we are telling God thank you for something He has done for us, or is doing within us, or even thanking Him for something He is going to do.

Psalm 136 commands the congregation to give thanks to Yahweh, because His gracious, steadfast, merciful love endures forever. Go on and read Psalm 136.

Prayerwork, part 1: In the blanks below write some down a list of things for which you are grateful. If you have trouble thinking of something to thank God for, allow Psalm 136 to help guide your list.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17

Prayerwork, part 2: Tell God thank you for each one of the people, places, or things you listed above. Also, don’t forget to try and turn your attention to God throughout the day, all day. And keep setting your alarm reminders to pray. By now, you have developed several different ideas to pray about and prayer tools to use. Feel free to stick with one, like the Jesus Prayer, or mix and match throughout the day the prayers tools you have enjoyed the most. The key is to keep praying.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
